[book-review] Jodie Ellen Malpas - The Brit (Unlawful Men Series #1)

I'm a huge fan of Jodie Ellen Malpas!

I got her first book series "This Man" last year and started it with a bit of a struggle but soon got to love her characters. Since then I couldn't stop reading her books.

This year, she released something different from her other books with 'The Brit'.
A dark romance - you could say.

No second chances.

Here's the official synopsis:

Rose Cassidy doesn’t truly live; she just exists. Numbing herself to fear and pain is the only way she can survive in this cruel world. So when she’s taken as collateral by the notorious Danny Black in a deadly game of power, she’s thrown by the deep fear she feels rising within her. And, worse than fear, a profound desire. She’s heard tales of The Brit. He’s callous. Coldblooded. But no one ever said he was wickedly beautiful and darkly captivating. He sees past her mask, giving her a cruel sense of hope. But she must fight their twisted attraction or risk losing the one thing she survives for.

When Danny Black took an enemy’s beautiful lover as security, he never anticipated the repercussions. Or the warped attraction they would share. Rose Cassidy pushes Danny to the brink of madness with her impenetrable façade and savage allure. He has to remind himself that she’s bait. A solution to a problem. Yet she evokes powerful feelings in Danny, and feelings are risky when you’re wanted dead by endless enemies.

The most dangerous game is about to be played.

But can either of them win?

You haven't been saved. Yet.

The book is written from two perspectives. One from Danny - the leader of a Mafia imperium in Miami - and one from Rose - a prostitute who is willing to do everything to get her life back.

From page one I was torn between crying, shouting, laughing and sexy scenes. I was sceptical at first but immediately fell in love with Danny.

Both characters are broken but find to each other and change slowly over the chapters and soon Danny is willing to do anything to keep and protect Rose.

Their relationship is intense. Full of problems, fear and enemies that prevent for them to be happy. Until Danny takes over and ends everything...

I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just stop right there.

I absolutely loved this new persective of JEM's men. A new area so to speak. A new way we haven't seen from her usual men yet. A darker way.

TBH this book is not for everyone probably because it really is dark and sometimes pretty violent. But if you don't mind, go and read it. The end will break your heart. You'll inevitably fall for Danny and Rose. For their stories. Their broken souls and the opportunity to fix it together.

As usual I love Jodie's writing stile and that it's a slow and yet explosive beginning and story. Introducing the characters a few years prior to the main story, was a brilliant move and lead me to the wrong conclusions at the end.
The story was well thought and I did not expect this ending at all.
I loved the changing perspectives in the book between Rose and Danny and the side characters where lovable and quite funny sometimes.

Also how gorgeous is this cover please? I'm so in love with it!

So definitely another 5 star read from her!

I've never been afraid of anything. - Me neither. Not for a long time. Until you.

Also.... The second book in the Unlawful Men Series arrived a few weeks back and is called The Enigma. I finished it last night and it got an amazing ending ;)
