[book-review] Chloe Gong - These Violent Delights

Image
“The stars incline us, they do not bind us.” I finished this book about an hour ago and I'm once more ruined. My feelings are ruined by a book. Probably my fav so far this year.  Definitely 5/5 stars!  But let me tell you how it came to this...  I brought this book last November for myself as a birthday present (yes I do that). It sat in my shelve for ages, never coming around to read it, although I just heard good things and the cover is just stunning, it sat there and waited. Waited for the moment I'd pick it up. The moment was this Tuesday, shortly before my parents arrived for lunch. I didn't really get around to read it that day, only the prologue and it intrigued me. Since I had a massive headache on Wednesday, I didn't even picked it up for two days an the madness started on Friday when I finally picked it up again. And I couldn't put it down! It took me a few chapters to get into Chloe Gong's writing style but I absolutely loved it! She's really go...

Pls go and follow her here and check out her brilliant blog here . Thank you also to Moi at Bookish Blunders for starting this tag and making the wonderful artwork to it :)   Here are the rules :  - Post the rules in your post.  - Answer all the questions and if you’ve never heard any of the songs, listen to them before you answer the questions.  - Link the creator and the person who nominated you (see above). - Nominate 8 people. Only 8. (Why? There’s no Symphony no. 9, so)  - Use the featured image I’ve posted on this tag. [book-review] Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard

Image
Why not think that sometimes—just sometimes—you can overcome evil with silence? And let people hear their hatefulness in their own ears, without distraction. Maybe goodness is enough to expose evil for what it really is, sometimes. Today I want to talk about a book, that made me fall deeply in love with reading again. A book I read in a day. A book that's full of love, thoughts about life and one of the most wonderful love stories I have ever read. Today I'm talking about "Gabriel's Inferno" by Sylvain Reynard. I first read it in March 2020. I found it due to Twitter. A trailer on the movie was released by a wonderful site called Passionflix. I was immediately hooked and went to check out the book. I found it, ordered book 1 & 4 and started as soon as it arrived. Damn, what a good read! I had some time off on my second job by that time so I had the whole weekend to read. Managed in a day though.  I’m going to be thrown out of Paradise tomorrow, Beatrice. Our ...

How To Read More

Image
A question I've been asking myself for quite some time after I nearly quit reading for a few years. I had barely any time with work and somehow every book I picked up it didn't feel good enough to finish. It was me though, not the books. *laughs*  I was completely hooked again a few months ago after starting Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard. A romantic novel I'll hopefully post a review on here soon so no spoilers for now. Anyway I was back to my "book eating". I finished a book a day and was so happy to be back to reading more again. One question is remaining though.  How can I read more?    Well being sick for the third week in a row due to my back, I had a lot of time reading. I finished some books I had started ages ago. I'm trying to get a routine again and get a balance between reading and writing again. So here are my strategies I'm trying to use to read more these days. 1) TBR-pile One thing I hear every time in the book community is the w...

Job Offer - but not one I expected

Image
Last Friday I was at the show of a friend. He's the one I often write about on Twitter when we head to dinner and the one who sings and is working with light and audio technique on big shows etc. I often help him with his shows and I also did on New Years Eve. He got himself a new professional camera then and I had the honor of doing one of two cameras that night. When 2020 didn't look that bad of a year.  Well last Friday he had a tiny show with some friends and I promised I'd show up. Due to my back problems I wasn't any help at all but it was nice seeing him. Although I swear wearing a mask in a stuffier room is no fun for nearly 4h *laughs* Anyway I had a talk with his dad's friend - nice older guy who's supporting his firm and him. He got me outside to talk because he said he had something important to tell me.  First he got me 100 bucks for helping all the time with the show and I was surprised. Then he told me that he got the film from New Year to a guy w...

[book review] Carolyn Denman - Songlines

Image
. After a month I finally finished Songlines by Carolyn Denman. And I've one word: brilliant! But let me first tell you how it came to me reading this.  Big shoutout to the wonderful @OdysseyBooks on Twitter for sending me the e-book to read. They are a small publishing house in New Zealand and support new and unknown authors. If you want please visit their Twitter under mentioned @ above, or their website odysseybooks.com.au .  I started to read it and loved it immediately but you all know that I truly struggle with time at the moment since I'm working 7-days a week now. Luckily I'm sick for the second week (back problems) and I finally managed to continue with some books I had started. Also Songlines . I read it in one sitting yesterday and I'm curious of how the story will continue since there are 3 more books at the moment of "The Sentinels of Eden" series by Carolyn Denman.  Carolyn Denman grew up in Melbourne and completed  a Bachelor of Science at the U...

[review] Bad Boys For Life

Image
My most anticipated movie this month and I already loved the trailer so I was quite excited to see it on Valentines Day after Parasite. There one simple thing to say it: I absolutely loved it! I was quite happy to see the boys back in action, being all funny and sassy and having also a few ups and downs. Bad Boys, Bad Boys Watcha Gonna Do, Watcha Gonna Do When They Come For You We had the beloved Bad Boys Theme with a shot over Miami and the water and a car chase in the beginning. You can see Mike and Marcus driving in his Porsche through the city, followed by some cops with sirens following them. It's quite funny and so familiar when Marcus freaks out while Mike is driving and Mike is just all sassy. I loved it. The a big reveal, Marcus is a granddaddy now! Awww cuties. Mike, the Captain and all the others are celebrating in a bar and after, Marcus tells him he want's to retire for good. Mike challenges him to a race and the one who wins the run, decides what wi...
